How the seal works
Five parts, each of them simple, that together make a quiet change impossible to hide.
-
The fingerprint
Each file receives a digital fingerprint (SHA-256): a 64-character code computed from its exact contents. Change a single pixel of a photo and the whole fingerprint changes.
-
The time stamp
Each record is sent to an independent time-stamping authority (DigiCert), which signs the moment it saw it, under the international standard RFC 3161. Nobody can later stamp a record with an earlier date.
-
The chain
Each of an animal's records points to the one before it, so its history can be neither reordered nor shortened unnoticed. After every sealing session we publish a signed index of the latest record of every history.
-
The issuer's signature
We sign every record with our issuer key. Its fingerprint is published below and printed on every dossier, so a copied website could not pass for ours.
-
The independent public record
The fingerprint of every record is also written into an independent public record that nobody controls, not even us. It adds certainty, but the result of a verification never depends on it.
What the seal proves
That these exact files existed no later than the date shown, that they have not changed since, that we sealed them, and where they sit in the animal's history.
What the seal does not prove
The seal does not certify an animal's identity, health, parentage or value. Those remain the responsibility of whoever issued each record: the vet, the laboratory, the registry or the owner. The capture time the owner declares is a statement, not a proof.
The owner decides
Nothing about an animal is published without its owner's written permission. A public page shows only what the owner chose to show; everything else stays sealed and hidden.
Our public issuer keys
Compare this fingerprint with the one printed on your dossier and with the one the verification page shows.

The published index
After every sealing session we publish a signed and time-stamped index that lists, for every history, its number of records and the fingerprint of the latest one, with no names, owners or contents. A copy is kept in an independent public archive outside our website.

The verifier
Every record page checks everything inside your browser; no file ever leaves your device. You can also download the offline verifier: a single file that works without internet.
